Why Must We Learn This?
One day our professor was discussing a particularly complicated concept. A pre-med student rudely interrupted to ask, "Why do we have to learn this pointless information?"
"To save lives." the professor responded quickly and continued the lecture.
A few minutes later, the same student spoke up again. "So how does physics save lives?" he persisted.
"It keeps the ignoramuses like you out of medical school," replied the professor.

ある日医学部進学コースの先生が特別難しい授業をしていた。学生は先生を無礼にさえぎり、こう質問する。「なんでこんな意味のない情報を学ばないといけないんですか。」「命を救うためだ。」と先生はすぐさま答えると、授業を続けた。
数分して、同じ学生がしつこく質問する。「物理学でどうやって命を救うんですか？」
教授は明快に答える。「君みたいなどうしようもない学生を医学部に行かせなければ命が救えるんだよ。」
