A California policeman pulled a car over and told the driver that because he had been wearing his seatbelt, he had just won $5,000 dollars in the statewide safety competition. "What are you going to do with the money?" asked the policeman.
"Well, I guess I'm going to get a driver's license," he answered. "Oh, don't listen to him," yelled a woman in the passenger seat. "He's a smart aleck when he's drunk."
This woke up the guy in the back-seat, who took one look at the cop and moaned, "I knew we wouldn't get far in a stolen car."
At that moment, there was a knock from the trunk and a voice said, in Spanish, "Are we over the border yet?"

カリフォルニアの警察官がある車を止め、運転手に対してこう説明する。「州の安全キャンペーンで、あなたがシートベルトをちゃんと締めていた人の中から選ばれたので、$5000をもらえます！」続けて警察官が質問する。「お金をどういう風に使いますか？」「なら、運転免許でも取りに行くかな。」と運転手が答える。すると助手席に座っていた女性が大声を上げる。「この人の言うことは信じないで。酔っぱらうとすぐ調子に乗るんだから。」
この声で後部座席で寝ていた男が目を覚まし、警察官を一目見るとこう言う。「やっぱり盗難車じゃ逃げ切れなかったか。」
すると続いてトランクからどんどん叩く音がして、スペイン語でこう言うのが聞こえてくる。「もう国境は越えた？？」
