Efficiency Driven
We noticed that all the waiters in this New York restaurant carried two spoons in their vest pocket. Naturally, we were curious. We asked a waiter why.
"Sir, as a result of an efficiency study by the management, it was determined that the most frequently dropped silverware item was a spoon. Therefore, all the waiters carry two spoons so that the item can be instantly replaced." As he was explaining that we noticed a string hanging out of the fly of his pants. So, we asked about that."Sir, that's another efficiency study result. When we have to go to the bathroom, we use the string to pull ourselves out and aim. Therefore, we do not have to stop to wash our hands."
We replied, "I understand how you can get yourself out and aim, but how do you get yourself back in."
"Well," replied the waiter whispering, "I don't know about the other guys, but I use the two spoons!"
効率の追求
ニューヨークで行ったレストランではウェイターが全員ベストの胸ポケットにスプーンを二つ入れていました。当然気になって、ウェイターに何故なのか聞いてみました。「店長が効率性の調査を行ったら、お客様が床に落としてしまう物の第一位がスプーンであることが分かったんです。そのためウェイターはスプーンを常に二つ持ち歩いて、落としたスプーンをすぐさま取り替えられるようにしているんです。」こうやって説明してくれたウェイターを見ると、その彼のズボンのチャックの所から糸が垂れ下がっていました。これについても質問してみました。
「効率性調査のもう一つの結果ですよ。我々ウェイターがトイレに行くとき、糸を使って引っ張り出して済ますんです。それによってトイレで手を洗う必要がなくなりますから。」
気になってさらに聞きました。「引っ張り出して済ます所まではいいんだけど、どうやって元に戻すんだい？」
そのウェイターは小さな声でこう答えます。「あの、他の人がどうしてるかは知らないけど、僕はスプーンを使ってます。」
