What's My Name?
The manager of a large office noticed a new man one day and told him to come into his office. "What's your name?" he asked the new guy.
"John," the new guy replied.The manager scowled, "Look... I don't know what kind of a namby-pamby place you worked before, but I don't call anyone by their first name. It breeds familiarity and that leads to a breakdown in authority. I refer to my employees by their last name only ... Smith, Jones, Baker ... That's all. I am to be referred to only as Mr. Robertson. Now that we got that straight, what is your last name?"
The new guy sighed, "Darling. My name is John Darling."
"Okay John, the next thing I want to tell you is . . . "
僕の名前を聞いてますか？
部長が新入社員を見つけ、自分のオフィスに来るように命じる。「君の名前はなんて言うんだ？」と部長は新人に質問する。「ジョンです。」と新人が答える。
部長は説教を始める。「いいか．．．君が以前どんなふざけた職場にいたかは知らないが、私は部下を下の名前で呼んだりしないんだ。そうすると妙な親近感が湧いて、私の権限に関して誤解する輩が出てくるからな。従業員は苗字でしか呼ばないんだ．．．スミス、ジョーンズ、べーカー．．．そんな風にだ。私のことはミスター・ロバートソンとしか呼ばせない。この辺を理解してもらった上でもう一度聞こう。君の苗字はなんだ？」
新人はため息をつく。「ダーリンです。僕の名前はジョン・ダーリンです。」
「よし分かった、ジョン、次に言いたいことはだな．．．」
