Helping Father
A clergyman walking down a country lane and sees a young farmer struggling to load hay back onto a cart after it had fallen off.
"You look hot, my son," said the cleric. "why don't you rest a moment, and I'll give you a hand."
"No thanks," said the young man.
"My father wouldn't like it."
"Don't be silly," the minister said.
"Everyone is entitled to a break. Come and have a drink of water."
Again the young man protested that his father would be upset. Losing his patience, the clergyman said, "Your father must be a real slave driver. Tell me where I can find him and I'll give him a piece of my mind!"
"Well," replied the young farmer, "he's under the load of hay."
父を手伝う
牧師が田舎道を歩いていると、若い農夫が荷馬車から落ちた大量の干し草を一生懸命戻そうとしているのを見かける。「暑そうだな、君。ちょっと一休みしなよ。その後私が手を貸そう。」と牧師は言う。
「いや、いいです。父が怒りますから。」と若い男は言う。
「何ばかな事を言ってるんだね。誰だって一休みする権利ぐらいあるさ。こっちへ来て水でも飲みなさい。」と牧師が言う。
それでも若い男は父親が怒るからと言って固執する。いらいらしてきた牧師が言う。「君の父親は本当にひどい人だね。どこに行ったら会えるか教えなさい。ちょっと説教をしてやるから。」
「あの、父は落ちた干し草の下にいます。」と若い農夫が答える。
