Poor Creature
A mother and a daughter are shopping for the Christmas in the mall, when the mother eyes an expensive fur coat. "This year," she says, "I think that I will buy my present instead of making you and dad shop for me." The daughter nods in agreement. "And I think this fur coat would be perfect too."
The daughter protests, "But mom, some helpless, poor creature has to suffer so that you can have this."
"Don't worry honey," says the mother, "your father won't get the bill for a couple of weeks."
可哀相な生き物
母親と娘がクリスマスのための買い物をショッピングセンターでしていると、母親の目は高価な毛皮のコートに釘付けになる。母親は言う。「今年はあなたとお父さんにプレゼントを買ってもらうんじゃなくて、自分で買うことにしようかしら。」
娘はいいんじゃないのという風に頷く。
「それでこの毛皮のコートなんか完璧じゃないかと思うのよ。」
すると娘は反対する、「だけどママ、とても無力で可哀相な生き物がこれを得るために苦しむのよ。」
「心配しなくても大丈夫よ、」と母親が言う、「お父さんは2週間くらいしないと請求書を受け取らないから。」
